Animals are garbage bins for plants
At the beginning (2.6 billion years ago) there were only bacteria and plants, until they filled the Earth with their toxic excrement: oxygen. This was the opportunity for the aerobic (oxygen eating) creatures to evolve: the animals.
This teaches us that our “hierarchical/pyramidal” view of Nature (animals on top of plants etc), should be replaced by a “web” view
