The Islamic State has its theological foundation in Wahabism, a branch of Islam invented in the 18th century in the Arabian peninsula, and adopted by the Saud family as their official creed, as they build Saudi Arabia. They were helped by the West in order to weaken the Ottoman Empire.
This religious reform simply wanted, at the begining, to clean up some saint-worshiping (mainly imploding their tumbs) that had been introducing in Islam. And the cry for this reform was “let us stick strictly to the letter of what Coram says. No interpretation allowed”.
Does it sounds familiar? Yes: this is Calvinism, the 16th century reformation of Luther, the reformer, and the “sola scriptura” principle
The problem is that the Coram has the external form of a civil and penal code. Thus, if you stick to the letter, you are time-traveled back to the 7th century, and your society turns grotesque.
We should better be careful with what we believe.

La realidad nos bombardea con una cantidad de información inmensa, en cada fotón y cada onda que cruza nuestros sentidos. El cerebro en un filtro que agrupa estímulos y recoge patrones, es decir, que nos simplifica la realidad, para que podamos entenderla y movernos en ella. Todo conocimiento es una simplificación de la realidad para que ésta nos haga sentido.
Deberíamos, entonces, deshacernos de la idea de que educación consiste en dar acceso a más información (bibliotecas, conferencias,  internet).
Una persona educada es la que sabe extraer conocimiento, filtrarlo de una masa de información. No es la que trabaja con más datos sino con menos.

Los animales todo lo hacen bien. Incluso cuando un perro devora a un niño. ‘Portarse bien’ es seguir el orden natural y animales plantas y minerales no pueden no hacrelo.
El hombre tiene un pequeño espacio entre su instinto y su obrar, de forma que no le bastan sus impulsos para acertar plenamente con su orden natural. Tiene que usar su inteligencia -que también tienen los animales- de una forma especial -que se llama razón- para llenar ese hueco -que se llama libertad- y encontrar el comportamiento adecuado.
Así como los perros aciertan siempre con su orden natural, con su posición correcta en el Cosmos, no todos los humanos, lo logran.

Politics is gardening the human ecosystem

Egyptians saw the political order as part of natural order (for example people were born to do different things: rule, serve). On the other extreme, we moderns think politics is the coordination of different, equal wills.
The truth is in between:
The natural order places each one in an starting point (a genetic and a cultural endowment). But the starting point, although important, is no definitive. Then we add our vocation (mission) and our freedom. With this, we can get out and make a better world (instead of adapting to it by evolution).
From this perspective, politics is not a social contract but the gardening of an ecosystem that allows each member to walk the maximum distance between the his/her starting point and his/her goal.
In an ecosystem, treating all individual as equals is the sure way to destroy it.
